Introduction to ISN Calibration:

For ISN metrological calibration requirements, we generally use a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) to calibrate ISN impedance stabilized networks. This kit is based on a combination of test accessories required by the test specifications described in the EMC test standards CISPR 22, CISPR 32 and CISPR 16-1-2 Appendix E. There are a number of other calibration kits within this portfolio, as detailed in the individual kit descriptions below.

Scope of Application:

The Calibration Kit 8158 has a very wide range of calibratable ISN types. Simply put, using this kit product in conjunction with a network analyzer, you can calibrate the transfer coefficient, S21, and voltage divider coefficients of all the ISN impedance stabilized networks shown in the chart below. Theoretically there are no limitations on ISN product brands or sizes. Ports include RJ-45, RJ-48, RJ61-8P8C, RJ-12-6P6C, RJ-14-6P4C,RJ-11-6P2C.

CMA8 Common Mode Adapter

The 8 wires of the RJ-45 connector are electrically interconnected within a CMA8 (Common Mode Adapter). This common mode potential can be grounded, suspended (open), or can be connected with a 150 Ω termination via a switch

CMI8 / EAB8

Kit 8158 CMI8 / EAB8

The 8 wires of the RJ-45 connector are also electrically interconnected in the CMI8 / EAB8 adapter. If the switch is set to “CMI8”, the inner conductor of the 50 Ω BNC connector is connected directly to the common mode port. The impedance and phase of the EuT port of the ISN can thus be measured.
If the switch is set to “EAB8”, a 100 Ω resistor is connected between the inner conductor of the BNC connector and the common mode point. Thus, impedance matching between the 50 Ω measurement system and the 150 Ω common mode impedance of the ISN is achieved.

CMI-TERM 150 Ohm Termination

The CMI-TERM is a 150 Ω terminating resistor connected between the interconnect port and ground of the RJ-45 connector. Thus, the impedance measurement test setup of the CMI8 can be verified.

Kit 8158 LB4 Balanced-Unbalanced Converter

The LB4 contains four balanced-unbalanced converters, each with an asymmetrical 50 Ω input (BNC connector) and a symmetrical 100 Ω output assigned to a specific pair of RJ-45 connectors. In order to measure the transmission bandwidth or insertion loss of an ISN, one LB4 needs to be connected to the equipment under test (EuT) and the other to the auxiliary equipment (AE).

Kit 8158 LB4-THR Insertion Loss Adapter

With the LB4-THR adapter, the insertion loss of the transformer integrated in the LB4 can be measured. Therefore, one LB4 must be connected to each LB4 side of the LB4-THR and the pairs (1...4) to be measured must be connected to the BNC connectors corresponding to the VNA.
