Product Description:
The PowerWave is a high power, electronically controlled DC power supply from AMETEK-EMTEST for applications where superior performance is required. They are also ideal for testing high voltage components up to 1500 VDC, such as electric drives, test benches, batteries and auxiliary components for production R&D testing. Not only can it be used as a constant voltage source, but it can also handle challenging tests such as voltage variations and dynamics (e.g. ISO 21498, LV123, MBN 11123, VW 80300, Nissan 28400NDS91, and other similar standards) with its 650/ms slew rate. It is also a fully bi-directional power supply with 100% output/absorption capability. This allows electric drive systems to be tested in both motor and generator modes, as well as charging and discharging high voltage batteries. Built-in energy recovery reduces dissipated heat and energy consumption. Scalable and upgradeable solutions - 250 kW to 1 MW.

Suitable for battery, motor and other electric vehicle high-voltage components production R & D testing
Other applicable scenarios:
- Grid simulator for solar inverter or charging station testing
- High Power Avionics and Military Component Testing
Product Features:
Energy recovery - Reduces heat emission and energy consumption:
PowerWave's modern topology utilizes an active front end (AFE) with power factor control (PFC). This allows energy to flow in both directions and enables power to be fed back into the grid. PowerWave offers high efficiency and low internal losses compared to power supplies with linear technology. This results in low heat dissipation and power consumption, which reduces cooling requirements and saves energy costs. pfc ensures that the power factor is always stable at >0.99, thus minimizing apparent power and installation costs.

Modern topology reduces heat dissipation and energy consumption.
The advantages of wide bandwidth and high conversion rates:
0 to 1000 V DC voltage creepage test in < 1 ms.

DC voltage creepage test rise/fall time <1ms
The PowerWave is designed for superior output performance. 1250 V/ms conversion rate ensures smooth rising voltage edges with virtually no overshoot or undershoot. This is especially critical when testing high-voltage components, especially when performing tests with highly dynamic supply voltage variations. With its wide frequency range and combined DC-AC outputs, PowerWave can generate DC supply voltages with AC ripple superimposed. Combined with the ripple generator Ripple NX, tests can be performed according to standards such as ISO 21498, ISO 7637-4, LV123, MBN 11123, VW 80300, and others - with a frequency range from 10 Hz to 300 kHz.

1000V DC superimposed on 1000Hz AC ripple
Wide voltage coverage, dual range output - 250 kW to 1 MW:

Positive and negative polarity voltage and current output ranges
In electric vehicles, the voltage and power of the high-voltage network will vary by make, platform and model (typically 100 to 250kW and 150 to 1500V DC). Future power requirements are generally growing. Thanks to its dual-range output, PowerWave covers a wide range of voltages and currents and makes efficient use of available power. A single unit delivers 250 kW of power and is scalable up to 1000 kW (scalable). This makes PowerWave ideal for testing electric vehicle components where flexibility is important.
